May 2020 ECCE-ECPE: Letter from Michigan Language Assessment to exams stakeholders in Greece

Michigan Language Assessment, and its partner in the administration of ECCE and ECPE, the Hellenic American Union,

want to do everything possible to minimize the impact of the COVID-19 virus on English language education in Greece. Countless families and individuals have been affected directly by the pandemic: schools have closed, people have been advised to stay in their homes, and we are all concerned for our health and the health of our loved ones. No part of society has been left untouched; life as you’ve come to know it has changed drastically in a very short time. Meanwhile, brave people across the country are hard at work providing access to healthcare, food, and emergency support during these difficult times.

Michigan Language Assessment is acutely aware of the importance of the ECCE and ECPE exams in Greek society. The successful completion of an ECCE or ECPE has created and continues to create educational and professional opportunities for hundreds of thousands of Greek citizens. Unfortunately, the pandemic has impacted directly the registration period for the upcoming May administrations of these exams. At this time, the first priority must be the health of the Greek people, and we must follow the advice of the Greek government and international healthcare experts.

Therefore, in collaboration with the HAU, Michigan Language Assessment has taken the decision to postpone the administrations of the ECCE and ECPE exams in Greece that was due to take place on 16/17 May 2020. Dates will be confirmed in due course, but we expect them to be held in late June/early July, pending local health recommendations.

The staff at Michigan Language Assessment is monitoring the impact of the COVID-19 virus in Greece on an ongoing basis and liaising daily with the HAU. The HAU will remain your first point of contact for any queries relating to the forthcoming ECCE and ECPE exam sessions.

Teachers and students will no doubt be concerned about how to prepare for the exams effectively given the inability to hold face-to-face classes. Michigan Language Assessment and the HAU are working together to prepare a range of support activities and webinars to help you prepare for the exams from your homes.

Thank you for your patience and understanding at this challenging time.
